IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK

If you have ever driven through the Entrance’s main esplanade intersection and stopped at the pedestrian crossing, you will have noticed the busy corner hub that is the Euro Bean Cafe. Theo and his team are constantly run off their feet with locals and visitors alike enjoying coffee and food at the constantly evolving cafe. Over time, the cafe has embraced food trends and a range of tastes, and there’s no doubt this has played a huge part in Theo’s success. Theo was born and bred on the Central Coast, and has always been a passionate entrepreneur who believes in the Entrance and its potential as a desirable spot not just for locals, but also the hordes of tourists who show up every summer and long weekend. Theo welcomes the cultural diversity the Entrance attracts, with people from all backgrounds flocking to the beautiful seaside town as soon as a sunny weekend appears. It is this diversity that brings opportunity for so many local businesses and their owners.

In There Own Words

What are your thoughts on the relationship between food and culture?

In a Greek family, food is massive. Souvlaki, moussaka and salads are a big thing. We obviously still have a huge Australian influence, you know, the classic snags on a barbie, steak on a barbie. We’ve always been into food. And with the business we are always trying to source quality products from local suppliers.

There is a beautifully diverse crowd that holiday and live in the Entrance full-time, who do you have visiting your shop day to day?

The cultural diversity that comes through the shop, especially over those summer periods, is massive. Lebanese, Indian, Chinese, and then you have the Italians and the Greeks and they all own units here as weekenders. It’s great to see people from all walks of life coming to enjoy the Entrance.

Running a small business is no easy task. What appeals to you about owning your own cafe?

I really like the idea of being your own boss. I think our parents have given us the confidence to own a business and run it. I never thought of it as a scary thing to open your own business but I know some people do, you know, putting your money down and not knowing where it’s going to go.

How have you noticed the Entrance change over the past few years?

Over the years a lot of these units were vacant but now people are leasing them and moving into the area full-time, which is terrific for the community.
